PATTERN PUSHER – SINGLE REVIEW

Pattern Pusher – Light
Pattern Pusher - Light

Release Date: 25th January 2018

Exeter trio Pattern Pusher popped up my radar back in 2016 and they’ve been holed up squirreling away on music since then, only surfacing for the odd gig and to take photos of a giant rhubarb and custard coloured box in improbable locations. ‘Light’ lurches in to life like a confused, hungover man in unfamiliar surroundings with a jerky bass line and drums puncturing the meandering synth melodies. Vocally, there is a sense of pop class akin to a British Brandon Flowers but there’s more edge, more mystery and more menace. Throw in some sprinkled piano notes and give those drums more drive and you have a real alt-pop electro romp on your hands. There’s more to come from these three, there’s no doubt about that, but they’re doing it the right way on their own terms and there’s something quite enthralling about that.
