There’s something so wonderfully
sparse and airy about the vocals and drums opening to ‘Prodigal’ that it dries
your mouth and wets your eye at the same time. Tina Boonstra’s voice is pure
and powerfully fragile but there is a warmth and honesty that draws you in on
the first listen. This has the same intimate vibe as early Laura Marling but
with a more pop and less folk sensibility which is a stunning mix. By the time
the piano notes are sprinkled on like fine icing sugar there is a lump firmly
in my throat and I am entirely in love with this song. The biggest compliment I
can pay this song is that it feels like a song that Prince wrote and couldn’t
bring himself to perform as it was too personal to him. It’s just got that vibe.
