Velvet Volume have got it all:
Great name, check. Great look, check. Recorded the Danish version of the theme
tune for the Power Puff girls, check. Made a video where they look a bit like
the Power Puff girls, check. Like I said, they’ve got it all and new single ‘Look
Look Look!’ even has an exclamation mark in the title which I love. Musically,
these three sisters can rock out as well. The colossal rumbling of the bass and
drums is like the hum of a finely tuned engine revving up in the street. Then
throw in the dead-eyed, gritted teeth vocals (with harmonies) that make this
feel like the perfect marriage between the American power of Belly, Looker or
Breeders and the British sass of Echobelly, Elastica or Lush. This is a strong
contender for single of the year and Velvet Volume are on my new favourite
bands list, I told you they had it all. They’re pretty good at tennis too!
