Hannah Scott describes her music
as acoustic-pop but new single ‘Weight of Your Words’ exists, for me, on the
horizon of the acoustic walking with purpose firmly towards the pop world. If
you were organising these rippling synths, sparse beats and wispy vocals in to
CD order based on genre then it would slot in nicely between Ellie Goulding’s
early, less overt material and Beth Orton’s more recent, electronic material
which is no bad place to slot in. The other, slightly disarming thing is that
Hannah Scott’s voice has something of a timeless quality that could fit in to
the 80s alongside the power balladeers and electro pioneers or the 90s with
Dubstar and St Etienne. Heartbroken stuff, for sure, but gorgeous nonetheless.
