TWIST HELIX – SINGLE REVIEW

Twist Helix – Pulse
Twist Helix - Pulse

Release Date: 31st March 2017

Newcastle based band Twist Helix are continuing in a fine British tradition of electro synth-pop trios with mixed genders and a sense of the dramatic. Fronted by the charismatic Bea Garcia Cisneros, Twist Helix are releasing ‘Pulse’ at the end of March and if the idea of Blade Runner meets and electro version of Chariots of Fire gets your heckles up then you’d better listen up. The pulse of the synth bass is matched by the dramatic, Sioux Indian style battle song before we settle in to something thoroughly encapsulating. Think Florence + The Machine at their most dramatic, Depeche Mode but with a more sultry Kate Bush on vocals or Kimbra at her genre pushing best. I can just imagine getting completely lost in an entire set of tunes like this whilst dancing in a tent somewhere at a British festival after too much cider and sunshine. The blend of steely Northeast electro-grit and Latin influenced passion is utterly compelling and, most importantly, wondrously unique.
