THE ASSIST – SINGLE REVIEW

The Assist – Wonderful
The Assist - Wonderful

Release Date: 15th March 2017

Walsall whippersnappers The Assist are back with another single of reassuringly energetic proportions. ‘Wonderful’ has a brilliantly 90s Britpop bounce about it, like something between Blur and Blackgrape, but with the pop sensibilities of EMF or Carter USM. The guitars scratch and jump with Reggae precision while the drums keep things moving at a relentless pace and the vocals are delivered in a mixture of spoken word and soaring, indie anthem triumphalism that should have sweaty indie clubs up and down the country bouncing in unison all summer. As I said, this is a reassuringly energetic single but the soul and heart of it is pure 90s indie joy and that makes me very, very happy.
