BABYGIRL – SINGLE REVIEW

Babygirl – Overbored
Babygirl - Overbored

Release Date: Out Now

Babygirl are yet another act off the Canadian production line of exciting new acts as this Toronto twosome slide casually in to view and in to your hearts. ‘Overbored’ is the most sleepy-eyed anthem of doneness that there could ever be as singer Kirsten Clark sings sweetly about her boredom levels with her already dead relationship atop some thudding drums and the kind of guitars that you only normally hear on 80s soundtracks to B-Movie thrillers. Elements of Best Coast, Sleigh Bells the morning after the night before and any number of 90s slacker bands at their most downbeat (Pavement, Veruca Salt, Lemonheads) are all brought to mind and none of those are bat things. A word of respect should be given to the video’s director David Bedford and to Babygirl themselves for an absolutely adorable and enthralling video that was done in one take, dance moves and all. I said after the whole Brexit debacle that I might well want to leave the UK in the coming years but that a good music scene is a must for my future home – Canada continues to put up a strong case.
