As with many musicians, the lure
of London proved too much for Australian songwriter Amanda Merdzan so she has
taken the plunge and relocated from Perth to be part of one the world’s most
vibrant musical melting pots. But what ingredients does this songstress bring to
the mix? Well, on the evidence of new single ‘Glow’, Merdzan brings a gentle
elctro-pop beauty that blends Kate Bush, Lourdes, Lana Del Rey and any number
of 80s power ballads that feature a lot of curtains billowing from open windows
in black and white videos. The gently undulating synths, sparse beats and
Merdzan’s softly sensuous voice all blend perfectly to create a modern
late-night slow jam that would go down well after a night of dancing. Perth’s
loss is London’s gain, for sure.
