A.S. FANNING - SINGLE REVIEW

A.S. Fanning - Carmelita
A.S. Fanning - Carmelita

Release Date: 13th November 2015

So, an Irishman walks in to a German bar and, well, that's where the joke falls apart but basically that is the story behind A.S. Fanning - to be more specific he's from Dublin and the bar is in Berlin. The darkly handsome chap (I mean seriously, look at the way he wears that hat) has a new single coming your way next month in the shape of 'Carmelita' which starts with a rich organ drone and scratchy acoustic strum but that all drifts in to insignificance when you hear Fanning's voice. Think a tone in the Venn diagram between Nick Cave, Neil Hannon, Hozier and Johnny Cash, all treacly and smelling of roll up cigarettes and red wine. Singing of being strung out on Heroine and sitting at the back of the bus while the organ rages in the background gives this a confessional feel if Quentin Tarantino is reading this then you really ought to sign this guy up to do the music for the closing credits of your next film. Dark, delicious, steeped in pathos and with the swagger of a cowboy who has killed more people than he can remember so doesn't even bother trying any more.
