London duo The Salvador Darlings
(great name) are comprised of the beautifully named Carine Fierobe on vocal
duties and Bryan Borcherds making all the other noises. This new single from
the pair, 'Show World', has an opening that could be straight out of the Linkin
Park or Evanescence ballad book but soon settles in to something more akin to
Portishead or Sneaker Pimps which is a lucky escape for everyone involved. The
woozy guitars, intermittent beats and haunting vocals all surge in and out of
focus like the ebbing tide on a shingle beach where the shingle is made of
shredded hard drives and the sea is as black as oil. There is a dark,
bitterness to The Salvador Darlings that is hard to ignore or resist so why
bother? Just indulge yourself in the darkness.
