Vancouver quartet JPNSGRLS are
neither Japanese nor are they girls. They do, however, seem to have an aversion
to vowels but that seems to be de rigueur these days so let's not hold that
against them. Latest release 'Mushrooms' is a frantic mix of the Automatic,
Super Furry Animals at their most frantic and Idlewild with a strong pop ethic
and a healthy dose of excitable yelping. The video is an animated masterpiece
that the likes of Muse or the Flaming Lips would commission with their pocket
change and be very happy with. Video or no video, though, the twitchy, jerky
guitars and hundred mile an hour vocal delivery make this a thrill a minute
which keeps you engaged from start to finish which is surely all you could ever
ask for.
