I'm not sure that the concept of
lips being like wine is supposed to evoke images of an intoxicating character
or it's a suggestion of generally being a bit wet and alcoholic. It's probably
best that I listen to the song but I always like to pause to consider what I'm
about to experience before hitting that play button. 'Lips Like Wine' is the
new single from Toronto trio TIO and starts off like a gentle acoustic meander
but soon develops in a stomping, sultry electro tune with downbeat vocals and
some Twin Peaks inspired synth sounds. There are elements of Lemon Jelly,
Gilbert and a less aggressive Depeche Mode about this single and as the
melodies ripple in and out of earshot it's hard not to just lie back and let
this wash over you. Blissful stuff.
