KALANDRA - SINGLE REVIEW

Kalandra - Across The Sea
Kalandra - Across The Sea

So, let me get this straight. This is a part Norwegian, part British six piece that is based in Liverpool and who recorded their new in Liverpool's specifically Scandinavian Church. OK, I'm intrigued. 'Across The Sea' is the latest offering from this bunch and it begins as a gentle, light folk number before taking on some more ominous tones in the background. This is a real lament to be played out around the coast whenever a loved one is lost at sea and the storm has long since passed. Elements of First Aid Kit, Sound Of The Sirens and Avert Francis can be heard as gorgeous vocal harmonies and rippling guitar notes are punctuated only by the occasional percussive boom. As the candle is blown out at the end of the video you can't help but feel there is more behind this song than merely telling a story. Beautifully heartfelt and sublimely beautiful.
