Dieter Meier - The Ritual
Dieter Meier - The Ritual

Not many of you will instantly recognise the name of 69 year old Swiss musician Dieter Meier when written down on paper but it's not your fault, don't worry. If I was to mention the film Ferris Bueller's Day Off and the phrase "Bom Bom, Chick.....Chick-ah-Chick-ahhhhh" then I'm hoping you won't assume I'm mental and will realise that Dieter is one half of 80s electro pioneers Yello. Whether you remember him or not, he's back with a free download for you in the shape of 'The Ritual' which finds our hero in reflective mood to say the least. A slow, funereal beat opens the song up before a hollow piano line creeps in and Meier's deep, life-soaked voice washes over the airwaves. This is, bizarrely, more like Johnny Cash or Nick Cave than anything with a more uplifting lilt that you might have expected. Certainly worth a download though and an intriguing salvo from the forthcoming album.
