Wild Smiles are three young men
from Winchester who seem to have the music world stretched out in front of
them. There's a buzz around the band that seems to be growing organically
rather than through some flashy hype machine with celebrity jail bait hanging
off their arms. No, Wild Smiles produce real, honest rock'n'roll with hooks,
melodies and, most importantly, something to say. 'Never Wanted This' is a
Nirvana meets Lemonheads inspired song about the moment that a dreamer realises
they have slipped in to hum-drum life which they never planned on. The grungy
guitars, snarled vocals and pounded drums are perfectly pitched and make for a
cool sounding single with substance which is all I've ever asked for in a
rock'n'roll band. The video is also worth taking a butchers at and if
Volkswagen ever decide on some seriously subversive advertising then it's ready
made.
