I have to admit, when this one
started my immediate reaction was "well this is going to be another
piss-weak attempt to be Turin Brakes" which shows a lack of ambition or imagination
in my book. Twenty seven seconds in, however, and this Newcastle combo go all
Jeff Buckley on our asses with soaring, dramatic guitars and undulating drums.
'The Stream' is a slice of epic indie-rock that takes itself pretty seriously
but in a very good way and takes you from folky finger picking and almost
whispered lyrics to mountain conquering crescendos via some tantalising piano
work and impressive vocal ranges. This is the first track to be released from
an EP that will be coming out later in the year and on this evidence I am
definitely going to be keeping an eye out for it.
