Sundogs - Live From Sol Studios
Release Date: 30th October 2026
Andy Quick never sits still for too long and, seemingly, likes to have a number of different musical projects on the go at once so it was hardly surprising that he formed another collective in the form of Plymouth band Sundogs. 'Live From Sol Studios' is the band's debut EP and is the perfect way to announce themselves onto the scene with opening track 'Caned and Able' easing us into a funked up groove with dirty blues vocals courtesy of Mr Quick himself (a voice that entirely justifies his selection as warm up act for Van Morrison on recent Westcountry dates). 'Kapital K' keeps the blues groove vibe but goes for a more driving energy that is redolent of Blues Brothers but if they had been based in the UK and toured around in a pimped up Ford Capri.
The deft guitar intro to 'Grand Designs' matches the vocal tone perfectly and the rest of the band keep it low in the mix to let the song take the spotlight - the sign of experienced musicians. Quick's Bolton brogue does some spoken word intro on 'Meteors' before the funk guitar and rattling beats join in with organs laying the foundation and some Motown backing vocals completing the picture. Penultimate track 'Made It To The Sun' has an urgency to it that is almost itchy and it perfectly captures that moment of getting to the weekend or the holiday that's been keeping you going through all the overtime, delayed trains, and daily grinds so be sure to make space for this one on your road tripping playlists.
The EP closes out on 'Silver Lining', a song that swirls with Indian sounds and Tabla rhythms before settling into an undeniably infectious groove that Kula Shaker or George Harrison would definitely be fans of. As this collection closes out with Quick's mantras ringing in your ears, there's no doubt that you can hear the talent in the songwriting but the real trick here is in getting those brilliantly crafted songs into arrangements with such deeply infectious grooves.
