2:19 Special - Happy Fly EP (Krautpop!)
Release Date: Out Now
Cornish duo 2:19 Special have just dropped a new four track EP and 'Happy Fly' is something to behold. 'Big Black Truck' emerges from the shadows with hypnotic vocal harmonies and a sinister, 'Paint It Black' era Stones guitar lick before the drums root us to something a little more earthly. We take a sharp turn on 'Run' which throbs with an energy that is half punk fuzz and half Giorgio Moroder with a hangover making for a total far greater than the sum of its parts.
Title track 'Fly' has a glam-rock vibe but with a Kasabian meets the Black Keys dirty production quality that makes this a brilliant stomp something that will appeal to those that love the White Stripes but want them a little dirtier. The EP closes out on 'Never Told You So', a stoop rocking, guitar picking, slice of Americana that is absolutely dripping in Americana. The thing I love most about 2:19 Special is that they manage to explore lots of different corners of music with just two musical minds as the driving force and that makes them both expansive and focused. A hugely exciting band.
