Emily Gray is like that friend who is always on the move but, every now and again, her trajectory intersects with yours and you get to bask in her creative glory for a little while. 'Better Than This' is the singer-songwriter's latest release which hangs on a reggae-folk acoustic riff matched with Gray's vocal that is part early-Frank Turner, part confessional, and part Ellie Goulding if she'd taken a less poppy route in music. It should also be noted that Gray has an incredibly powerful and emotive voice that can both show off fragility and frustration in equal measure and that comes across so perfectly in a simply structured but incredibly effective song such as this.
