There's an 80s swagger to the new single from Croydon's Bugeye but 'This Is What I Want' is very much rooted in the present day as well. The razor sharp guitars and stabbing synths give this a Psycho-pop vibe while the almost spoken vocals are on a par with the Long Blondes or Yeah Yeah Yeahs in terms of being completely in control of proceedings. A handclap breakdown and a sense of being so cool they could slot in a Steel Drum solo and still get away with it makes this the perfect gateway track if you haven't got on board the Bugeye train yet. Hurry though, the doors have started beeping....
