The ever impressive and surprising Boss Cass is back with yet another slab of urban brutalism on new single 'Shoe Soles'. A lo-fi synth bass line is matched with Mike Skinner-esque vocal delivery and a beat that longs to be let loose but, for now, is happy to sit in the background bristling with an excess energy. There's a bleakness to this like a less polished Gorillaz with no hope on the horizon but it feels like someone hitting rock bottom knowing that the only way from here is up.
