Maisy Grace - Got Lost EP
Release Date: Out Now
I love an EP. More than single song but without any of the filler that so often comes with an album. When it's a Maisy Grace EP, well, you know you're in for a treat. The 'Get Lost' EP opens with the delicate and intimate sounds of 'Stepping Stone' with the energy of a Japanese peace garden and the introspective doubt of a woman trying to work out where she fits into the world. The nudging approach of 'What Do I Know?' is barely perceptible but then Maisy Grace's soul filled and vulnerable vocal emerges like a broken beacon beckoning you home with warmth and forgiveness.
'Out Of Control' shows a sophistication in song writing in among the sparseness of the arrangement with hints of Jamie Yost or Noah Gundersen creeping in at various points. However, the power of emotion and vocal delivery on 'Lemons' really steals the show as the Cornish singer-songwriter positively pleads with the listener to give her something, anything to help her. The EP closes out on 'Colours (Of A Storm)', a song that broods like the heavy skies before a downpour while those vocals yet again show their quality but also suggest that there is more to come with a versatility that could suit dance music or full blown stadium shows a la Florence + the Machine. None of these are party bangers but you wouldn't expect that from Maisy Grace - this is an artist at home in creativity, fragility and honesty, and we're just lucky to be invited into that home.
