Jesse Roper - Daisy Wake Up EP
Release Date: Out Now
Canadian bluesman Jesse Roper is new to my ears but I'm glad to welcome his music into my life and you should be too. Roper's new EP, 'Daisy Wake Up', is a six song collection that opens with the title track and immediately we're transported into a twanging and stomping blues bar with pleasingly gravel toned vocals matching the grizzly guitars perfectly. The rocking and rolling of 'Lady Luck' hums like the engine of your road trip car as you speed along highways on your way to a good time. The lush Hammond organ on 'Green Eyed Lady' gives this one a soul vibe the reminds me of my dad playing music on long car journeys and you can't beat those happy musical memories.
There is an infectious buzz to 'Sweet Little Caroline' that will provide that cross over from the blues purists to a more contemporary audience as the slide guitars and clattering beat grab your attention and hold it close. 'I Hope It Finds You' is a mellow and somewhat sombre melody with Roper in more reflective mood, showing off a range and ability that just adds to the appeal of the man. The EP finishes up on 'I Love You Man' and it's a brilliantly Johnny Cash-esque take down of bromance awkwardness and I can just picture rooms of beered up blokes singing this with arms around shoulders. As much as I love the music on the EP, I also feel like Jesse Roper is the kind of guy I could happily spend time with just chewing the fat and putting the world to rights.
