WILLE & THE BANDITS - LIVE REVIEW

Wille & the Bandits + Martin Harley + True
Strays live @ Carnglaze Caverns, Cornwall

Show Date: 28th March 2026

There were two reasons that this gig was sold out - the great music and the fantastic venue. As with many venues across the UK, Carnglaze Caverns is a music venue under threat of closure due to fire safety regulations but, unlike many venues across the UK, this one is a freaking cave with some of the best natural acoustics you're likely to find in life or the next. So, the people did what the people do best and they came out en masse to support a great venue playing host to superb musical talent.

Making the long walk down towards the stage, I was greeted by the smooth and slick Americana sounds of True Strays, the perfect sound for the room. The three amigos were comfortable on the stage and created an ambience of warmth and unity which felt almost alien in the world of 2026.

There then follows the solo acoustic stylings of troubadour Martin Harley, a man who has the kind of reputation that precedes him. Stories from the road were intermingled with the kind of song writing and delivery that comes with the effortless ease of experience. I mean, who wouldn't want to spend an evening listening to a man in a cowboy hat singing rootsy songs in a cave while telling stories passed down from old ladies in middle American coffee houses.

The main event then swung into view as the impressive lights and atmospheric rumblings could mean
only one thing - Wille & the Bandits had arrived in town and they weren't interested in taking prisoners. The almighty rumble of new album track 'Wheal Jane' took the night to the next level and with the lights filling the darkness of the cave you could easily feel like you were being transported somewhere new. We were then treated to new tracks (like the Latin sway of 'Reina del Mar'), older tracks (the Soundgarden inspired ' Four Million Days'), and a whole lot of rock'n'roll. The variety of sounds, styles, instruments and influences, coupled with the light show and a music loving audience all made for a truly unique night. Here's to more. Many more.
