Sonia Stein is a true international having called Germany, America, England and Poland home at various points and that cultural mix really comes across in her music. 'Hell Ride' pops and pings like someone cooking popcorn in a microwave but with a bag of staples thrown in for the fun of it but at its heart this is a classy and sharp pop song. There are 80s influences in the guitars and synths, the New York sound comes through with some LCD Soundsystem in there but then there's a flavour of Ladyhawke in there too. Heartbroken lyrics are mixed with a real sense of fun, Madison Beer-esque vocals and is that the ghost of Prince on guitar? You bet your ass it is. Amazing stuff and a real advert for travelling this world rather than shutting down borders and living monoculturally.
