I love hearing about the 'day jobs' of musicians on the up so it made perfect sense that Abnorm front woman Abbie works in pest control given that the band's new single is called 'Rats' (side note: I used to live with someone who had two rats called Russell (Crowe) and Gary (Stringer)....there was also a guinea pig called Britney). The meaty rock'n'roll riff that gets things going is soon joined by a cymbal crashing beat to create a wall of noise that feels ominously inevitable, like the way the sea pulls back before a Tsunami hits. Abbie's vocal is brilliantly epic and more than matches the power of the rest of the band as they take influences like Muse, Calva Louise, Witch Fever and Span in their stride. Mighty, mighty stuff.
