OLLIE DIXON - EP REVIEW

Ollie Dixon - Rebirth EP

Release Date: 6th November 2025

The evolution of Ollie Dixon's music is something that it's been a real privilege to observe over the years but this latest collection, the 'Rebirth' EP, is taking things to another level altogether. The ambient waves of 'Intro (dawn)' soothe whatever is ailing you and signals the departure to another place where your daily worries can be forgotten. Then come the rolling, rumbling acoustic notes of 'Solace' joined by the Jose Gonzalez-esque vocals as Dixon create a real sense of space, peace and solitude in his soundscape. Title track 'Rebirth' has a little more urgency to it as piano notes, strings and ethereal vocal harmonies all mingle to create a truly calming yet uplifting experience.

'Byegone' ripples along the fret board while the percussion knocks through from a parallel world to let you know that everything is, and will be, alright. The lush and swaying strings of 'Interlude (ambient)' are ready to be used in an emotionally charged film soundtrack but then we get into the elemental energy of closing track 'Oceans'. Maybe its living near the coast that does it but something in Dixon's arrangements and songwriting just sounds like he's translating the lost language of the sea and that is something that speaks very loudly and clearly to my soul. In food terms, Dixon serves up a complex and nourishing meal of many courses that engages all the senses and leaves you satisfied but never bloated. Bravo.
