French solo artist a.gris (aka Alex Delamard) has created something of a bipolar beauty on his debut single 'Oblivion 2025' so prepare to expect the unexpected. Gentle acoustic ripples are echoed back as distorted noise before the song settles into something approaching a structure in a style that could loosely be described as grunge-pop. The layers of sound that build up create a sense of claustrophobia but the lightness of the melody keeps you optimistic, like drowning in a chocolate fountain with only a spoon to dig your way out. I am very much a fan of this track and hope there's more to come.
