Absent Minds - Forget Yourself

Devon upstarts Absent Minds are back with only their second single and 'Forget Yourself' is an intriguing listen from the get go. Moody, Fleetwood Mac guitars are joined by a trumpet melody giving this a 'Fashion Nugget' era Cake vibe but then the vocals are more soulful with a rock edge which gives the kaleidoscope another twist. At this stage of their career, the band are clearly trying different sounds and working out which influences will rise to the top but listening to them work this all out is still fun - like the early days of a relationship where everything is new and exciting but instead we get to watch/listen as the trumpet and guitar battle for solo space.
