Posturing - Ephemera EP (Kroustpop! Records)
Release Date: 30th October 2025
From Cornwall via Sheffield comes Posturing, the solo project of Laura Durdey, and her delightful new EP, 'Ephemera'. Opening with 'Gone', this collection shimmers into life like a sunrise in a dappled glade with gentle acoustic strums and a warm, luxurious vocal beckoning you in with a friendly smile and a sense that you've arrived home. There are a series of interludes this on EP, 'Noise.01' being the first with a single, eerie note held before bleeding into 'I Am The Man', a sultry, slightly drunk, lurching number that oozes French charm and tells stories of late nights and early mornings in Parisian dive bars.
'Noise.02' is woozier than its predecessor with a spooky quality as it leads us into 'Morning Light', a dark and cold song that exists in the moment between dark and light where David Lynch's imagination comes from. 'Noise.03' completes the interludes which aren't entirely necessary but do add a certain space and depth to proceedings that is often lacking in modern music. The delicacy of the vocals on 'Better' is something pure and beautiful but with a certain steeliness which perfectly blends the wildness of her Cornish roots with Durdey's new home in the Steel City.
The EP closes out on title track 'Ephemera', a delightfully upbeat and lively vocal performance that has so much charm and character that warms the spirit as much as the birds twittering in the background. Posturing is the kind of artist who has such unbridled creativity that I'd put her shoulder to shoulder with the likes of Self Esteem, Laura Mvula and Corinne Bailey-Rae in terms of British artists who are willing and able to create something a little bit different in the musical realm.
