Adam Weikert - Farewell To The Green Man

Leicestershire based Adam Weikert is an intriguing character and that's always a good place to start with new music but I should place a health warning on the start of this - if you have hearing aids or tinnitus, there is a persistent noise throughout that is meant to be there, I worked this out the hard and slightly alarming way! Anyway, 'Farewell To The Green Man' comes from Weikert's forthcoming album which mixes folk reimaginings with original material and it's an eight minute pause from reality. That persistent drone is punctuated with shimmering cymbals like waves crashing on the shore and then Weikert's vocal providing a sombre shanty tone. As the song unfolds, more elements are added an atmosphere is created that, while not always comfortable, does provide a window into something or somewhere that we don't always experience. Not my favourite track of the year but certainly one of the most intriguing and unique which is always welcome in my house.
