Any band that self-identifies as an 'Alt-Rock coven' is going to grab my attention so Venus Grrrls jumped straight out at me. The band's, sorry, coven's new single 'Ivy Tree' emerges subtly like the fog at daybreak in a woodland glade but then the chorus goes all 80s-inspired pop-rock on us and it's the most energising song about a tree I've ever heard. Coupled with a brilliantly camp video, this track shows off the kind of band that have a firm grasp of who they are, what they want to say and how they want to say it.
