Cheerbleederz - (prove me wrong) (Alcopop! Records)
Release Date: Out Now
I've said this before and I'll say it again - finding a band that is a gang of mates doing something they love in making music is one of the greatest joys to behold. More often than not, however, said gang is an all male affair so bands like Cheerbleederz need to be cherished for the different life view and sound they provide. The trio's new EP, '(prove me wrong)', gets going with the riotously fun and lo-fi 'I Deserved Better', an unapologetic and emotionally raw anthem of self-worth with Long Blondes-esque guitars and vocals that sound as though they're sung through redemptive tears.
'Passenger Princess' has a softer tone as the London three piece sing about days out being driven around while banging out a full-on indie banger of a melody. On 'Sleepwalking' we have some more mellow riffage and introspective lyrics that really deserve a rainy, grey afternoon sat by the window to fully enjoy them. The EP closes out with 'You Got It In For Me', a song that feels as tense as an argument with your partner in a social situation before the chorus explodes with Berries-esque energy to blow away that oh-so-English trait of not saying what you're really thinking. This is a really interesting and layered EP that stands up to repeated listens even though the songs are punky in lengthy so pour yourself a cup of something warm and enjoy the cathartic vibes.
