100% WET - ALBUM REVIEW

100% WET - 100% WET (Crunchy Frog
Records)

Release Date: Out Now

Casper and Jakob are the Danish duo behind 100% WET and their debut album, also called '100% WET', is one well worth giving some time to. From the opening jangle of 'Lost Myself' you might think this would be an indie ramble but then the skittish beats join and dreamy vocals to make this something else altogether. 'Ether' continues the spaced out vibes but the beats are a brilliant mix of Madchester and Royksopp but with Sugar Cubes era Bjork on vocals. On 'Looking In From The Outside' the swirl and beat combo is disorientatingly beautiful while 'Re-emerging' is a heady mix of those indie guitars we already discussed and some 90s inspired beats that make me want to find a remote field and just bliss out with some friends, a sound system and something herbal.

The brilliant beats continue on the rapid fire 'Over Me' which builds from a supercharged start into something altogether more spiralling and uncontrollable. The roller coaster continues on the cutesy 'Two Packs of Red Apples' with a rare moment of calm before 'Leave It' gives us a laid-back, surfer energy that makes you want to take a day out by the beach. In fact, this whole album is an escape from reality, the norm, the daily grind or whatever you need to escape from and lord knows there are enough reasons to want to escape these days.

Penultimate track 'Carat' is a floating, dreamy track that has just enough energy to keep you hooked before the journey comes to its final destination on 'Warmblooded' - a six minute slow-build of a track that will have you melting into your own clothes by the end of it. Props to the guest vocal performances of Eir, Polly, Frederik and others for adding some sort of narration or commentary to this otherwise wild and unpredictable trip. And it is a trip. So buckle up.
