An unassuming but brooding intro from Cornish noisemakers Falling Empires might lull you into a false sense of security on their new single 'Keelhaul' and the breathy, almost whispered verse vocal does nothing to suggest you'd be wrong. However, batten down the hatches for the chorus to come crashing over you because the vocals are turned up to a throaty scream, the brooding guitars go fool doom-merchant and the drums hit like a barrage of cannonballs to the side of a wooden ship. There is a real force-of-nature feel to this track and I quite like the idea of moody fisherman heading out to do battle with the sea with this track blaring out through their vessels speaker. Stick that in your cable-knit sweater, Fisherman's Friends.
