The stabbing keys and spoken word of the intro to ‘Today’ immediately put me in mind of Talking Heads but if they’d formed in England during the tail-end of the rave scene and that, ladies and gentlemen, is how you hook me in. The song builds with punchy drums and a hint of Joy Division in the low notes but it’s the sprawling, almost endless quality of the song that makes it feel both luxurious and bleak at the same time. Which is a lot like life, when you think about it…
