An intreseting and refreshing mash up of styles now from London collective Oi Va Voi on their new single ‘Shine A Light’. The song starts with an uplifting dance-indie piano riff that is joined by some powerhouse drums and then, unexpectedly, some clarinet. The mix of dance, indie, rock and Jewish folk melodies is disorientating, refreshing and uplifting, especially when garnished with the effortlessly cool vocals of Kalliopi Mitropoulou. This is the latest in a long line of releases from Oi Va Voi which makes it criminal and unbelievably sad that this is the first time I’m hearing them. However, there’s a new album coming in May so if, like me, you’re an Oi Va Voi virgin then this is the time to get involved.
