Hen Hoose - EP 3
Release Date: Out Now
Those hens have got out of their hoose again for another brilliant and eclectic EP. If you haven't enjoyed the first two EPs (and if not, why not?) then allow me to introduce you to Hen Hoose, a collective of female and non-binary songwriters who combine to create innovative and original music. The first of the five tracks on this EP is 'Bad Decisions' performed by the Scrabble winning combination of K4cie and XZO. The track has a dark hip-hop energy with a flute-ish melody, sick beat and a steadily unrelenting stream of lyrics delivered with a sense of passion and focus. Up next is 'Fucked Up' by Elisabeth Elektra and Carla J Easton, a track which has an initially demure style but it emerges from its chrysalis with the steely eye alt-pop chops of Gwen Stefani singing on an Aphex Twin cut.
On 'The Mountain' by Kiana Kalantar-Hormozi and Tanya Mellote we are treated to a Giorgio Moroder inspired electro-romp with dead-eyed Scottish spoken word over the top - the soundtrack to Irvine Welsh's take on Blade Runner anyone? Sarah Rayes and Ray Aggs combine on 'For All I Care' which keeps the electro vibes going with bouncing synths, 80s inspiration and the kind of vocals that make you want to climb on a magic dragon and soar off to a fantastical kingdom. The EP finishes up with 'Pressure' by AMUNDA and Nightwave, a club ready banger with hypnotic bass, a 90s inspired beat and vocals as soulful as they are poppy. This is another triumphant taster of the music and creativity available out there if you know where to look but if you don't know where to look it's Scotland.
