THE RHODES - SINGLE REVIEW

The Rhodes - Sawmills Session (Awakening
Records)

Release Date: Out Now

'Sawmills Session' has been released as a single but it could almost pass as a mini-EP due to the three tracks on offer so there is a lot to appreciate here. The first of the three is 'Love Leaves Scars' which starts with a hypnotic, thumping beat and riff combination that harks back to early Kings of Leon compositions but with a hint of the Verve to the earthy delivery before the song erupts into something truly triumphant. On 'Grace' the Plymouth outfit go more straight down the line of an indie-ballad with inspiration from the 90s bands of the Northwest in the tight guitars and impassioned vocals.

The third and final track of the three is 'Un-heard', a song which shows off some atmospheric guitar work, a la the Edge in his Unforgettable Fire/Wide Awake in America era, while the vocals having something of the Johnny Borrells about them. The Rhodes are not your average indie band, they have vistas and soundscapes in their music that sees them rise up and soar above their peers. Catch them while you can.
