ELECTRIC SPANK - EP REVIEW

Electric Spank - Electric EP (Crunchbox
Records)

Release Date: Out Now

This is the debut EP from Exeter funk collective Electric Spank but this is no raw, inexperienced band - these guys know exactly what they're doing. The 'Electric EP' opens with 'Put Your Records On The Table' and instantly we're strolling down funky avenue with horn stabs, guitars that really scratch that itch, snapping drums and vocals sound like Joss Stone had she be born on the other side of the pond. On 'Everyday Guy' the keys take the lead but the whole band is still up for the party as we ease into a more soulful, poppy number that has some late 70s vibes and, once again, that vocal just bowls you over.

'The Git Down' is some straight up P-funk with a slapping bass line taking centre stage only for the horns add some velvety smoothness to that popping four string sound. The EP finishes, leaving us wanting more, on '(Save The) Last Dance' which has a Miami smoothness to it which makes me want to cruise down the strip with the top down and this one pumping out of the stereo. Electric Spank are the real deal and they are real funky but they aren't done just yet, there is a whole lot more to come from this lot so get your dancing shoes ready.
