This is a relatively subdued new release from Berries but it still bristles with intensity and a sense of menace. 'Balance' hangs around a meandering semi-acoustic riff and the vocals of Holly Carter which are full of the kind of intimacy and emotion you once heard from Nirvana on MTV Unplugged. The rest of the band join in on hushed, haunting vocal harmonies but other than that this is one of the most sparse singles you'll hear this year and it is all the more striking for it.
