Poetic dark pop from intense duo Benefits now as their new single, a collaboration with Zera Tonin called 'Land Of The Tyrants', hits the airwaves. A spoken word delivery of lines like "this rose tinted sham, desert island dickheads who don't give a damn" atop a droned bass note sets the menacing tone from the word go. Brilliantly formed lyrics like "Etonian cackle", "Meat cheeked antiques" and, "the hypocritical hoards" hit like pointed finger jabs in the chest of a broken society within a broken system within a broken country. The song builds gradually, menacingly like the darker, younger, more aware brother of 'West End Girls' on a come down in the back of a taxi. Brilliant.
