RUSSELL SINCLAIR - EP REVIEW

Russell Sinclair - Do Ya Feel It?

Release Date: Out Now

For those that don't know, Russell Sinclair is a bit of a legend. Scratch that, he's a freakin' institution with a six-string and a mane of flame-spun hair. The tragedy is that a) he loves playing live so much that he hardly records anything and b) he is hardly known outside of the South West of England. Luckily for us, we have this new EP collection to feast on so lets gorge on this shall we? 'Do Ya Feel It?' opens with the title track in a flurry of drums and a squeal of horns before the blues-jive riffs join in and Sinclair's gorgeous, rasping vocals join in with just just enough breathlessness to maintain the live feel of the song.

By comparison, 'Have A Glass Of Wine On Me' is a late-night slow jam for after the club has closed and only those with nobody to love and nowhere to sleep are left propping up the bar and lending an ear to the wail of the blues guitar covered in a blanket of organ notes. The party gets going again on 'She Mistreats Me' as heartache comes to town and the horns return along with the backing singers and mean harmonica solo to give this a real Commitments vibe. The final track of this sorrowfully short collection is '(Lay Around And) Love On You' which is pure cop-film fodder as the guitars, horns and bass playing make you want to cruise around in a big ol' American car looking for trouble. Like I said, this is way, way too short but that hallmark of a great artist is to always leaving them wanting more, right? Well, I want more. Much more.
