MAIMUNA MEMON - EP REVIEW

Maimuna Memon - More Than I Bargained For

Release Date: Out Now

It feels like a genuine privilege, nay, honour to be sharing the music of the brilliantly talented Maimuna Memon with you and I have a whole EP to go through so let's dive straight in, shall we? 'More Than I Bargained For' opens with 'Sinner', a song which flutters shyly in to life as Memon's delicate vocals emerge from a chrysalis to slowly unfurl in to a thing of natural and colour-filled beauty. Rather than a Faithless cover, 'Insomnia' is a darkest-hour lullaby full of breathless love played out over rippling acoustic notes and low hummed harmonies that have peace at their core.

Former single 'Set This House On Fire' is just as mesmerising and intoxicating as Memon whirls, dervish-like, in to frenzy of passion that you can't take your eyes or ears off. Closing track 'Father of Mine' is a tender love note scrawled on the back of a bus ticket in a hospital waiting room with melodies full of knife-edge emotion and vocals bathed in the regret of words not spoken when there was still time. This is genuinely one of the most emotion filled collections I have heard in a very long time and I can't recommend it highly enough for that reason alone but there are so many more reasons to fall in love with the music of Maimuna Memon.
