2023 will always be remembered (by me, at least) as the year Izo Fitzroy came in to my life and that alone marks this out as a good year. Following on from her excellent album comes new single 'Black Insides', the kind of song sprinkled in sunlight, wrapped in 60s soul and filled up with elements of jazz inspired funk. Fitzroy's vocals are peerless on the current scene such is the rich, velvety tone with honest cracks at the edges with which she sings but the musicianship of the extensive backing band elevates this to a higher level. Soulful, heartfelt, brilliantly produced and authentically performed. Gorgeous.
