SUPERSONIC FUZZ GUN - EP REVIEW

Supersonic Fuzz Gun - Tone Deaf EP (Teen Wax)

Release Date: Out Now

West Midlands noiseniks Supersonic Fuzz Gun (great name) have dropped their debut EP 'Tone Deaf' and they're not messing around so neither should we. The four track collection gets going with 'What's the Big Idea' mixing the gang mentality of the Libertines with the brooding grunge energy of early Nirvana as the crack of the drums and fuzzed up guitars drill in to your head. 'Funny Pictures' keeps the same energy levels but adds in a little Madchester sneer and Britpop swagger.

Title track 'Tone Deaf' is a more poppy and perky number with a brilliantly raw sound that lets you hear every inhalation and crackle giving it a punk essence that gets squeezed out of most songs these days. The EP closes out on 'Mr Chlorine', a track that wouldn't be out of place on a lost early Oasis demo tape with its rolling drums, big guitars and sneering vocals before kicking up in to a garage rock rhythm to whip the crowd in to a frenzy. This isn't the best EP that Supersonic Fuzz Gun will release but it is effortlessly better than a lot of the other stuff out there that is produced with more money or guidance. Ones to keep an eye on.
