STILL BLUE - EP REVIEW

Still Blue - All Over The Chip Shop EP (Faction
Records)

Release Date: Out Now

There have been a number of breakout Irish artists in 2023 but none more so than Dublin trio Still Blue. The band's debut EP, 'All Over The Chip Shop' opens with their infectiously perky single 'Honeysuckle Daydream' which pings and bounces in all directions at once like the first throws of teenage infatuation. 'Downfall' has a real early 90s MTV jangle that makes you want to head to LA and hang out with Ethan Hawke and Winona Ryder before 'Fuzzy' lurches in to the room with the awkward energy of a kitchen dweller at parties, desperate to be noticed but resisting every opportunity to be seen.

The build on 'Lace' is gentle and gradual but the destination is a glorious, Cranberries inspired oasis of guitar fueled joy sprinkled with the gorgeous impish vocals of Nicole Lyons. The EP finishes (far too soon) on 'Hills of Donegal', a surprisingly sweet and soft acoustic folk lilt of a song which allows Lyons to show off her softer side but also hints at a band that could never be accused of being a one trick pony. Still Blue have got the lot so all they need now is your adoration.
