KROOKED TONGUE - EP REVIEW

Krooked Tongue - Deathproof EP

Release Date: 5th May 2023

Bristol's Krooked Tongue are about to drop their latest EP, 'Deathproof', and it's a bit of a banger. The four track collection roars in to life with opening number 'Backseat Therapy' which hangs around a slithering, oily bass line with stabbing drums and shimmering guitars all swirling together in the night sky. Former single 'Velociraptor' has a more direct indie-rock swagger to blending elements of Queens of the Stone Age and Rocket From the Crypt with Royal Blood and Reigning Days to devastating effect.

'Lupines', another single release, sees the band return to a more moody, shadowy space with guitars growling and snarling in the half-light as the full-moon illuminates the edges of a song that you really wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley. The closing and title track, 'Deathproof', is probably the most radio friendly track with huge guitars and uplifting vocals putting this one firmly in the Foo Fighters zone but with an undeniably British sound. Krooked Tongue are the kind of band that have all the songs and the attitude so just need an adoring set of fans and they should be made in the shade. Who wants to join me in that fan zone?
