LUKE SCOTT DUMPER - EP REVIEW

Luke Scott Dumper - No One Will Help You
Unless You Help Yourself EP

Release Date: Out Now

Despite having followed the career and work of Plymouth based Luke Scott Dumper from afar, this EP managed to slip under my radar so I'm a little late to the party but turning up late to parties is fashionable so I'm going to take that as a win. 'No One Will Help You Unless You Help Yourself' is a great EP title and tattoo/T-shirt slogan so let's get in to the music starting with 'Merlin', a song which manages to mix elements of Frank Turner's folk-punk spirit, the tone of early A in full flight and a little bit of city-mates Mad Dog Mcrae. 'Little Jimmy Crack' maintains the folk-punk energy but with a darker spirit as the guitar notes ping and bounce off the percussion and the vocals swirl around your head with an infectiously intoxicating effect.

On 'Aaron's Song', things take a downturn in terms of tempo and mood as LSD sings from the darker corners of an abandoned bridge arch while he noodles on an old battery powered synth that he found outside of Tesco. 'Dam Buster' brings the jig and reel back with a sense of chaos and unbridled enthusiasm as our hero croons from a lonely stage trying to keep up with the beat and maintain eye contact with the bride and groom during a wedding disco he wasn't invited to perform at. The whirlwind EP comes to a close with 'Beggars' featuring Simple Human, a track that veers more towards the EDM side of music but with that raw edge still in tact and a great vibe that shows what diversity and range Luke Scott Dumper has.
