Holly Rees - Missing Out (Again)

There must be something in the water up in Newcastle because the music coming out of that part of the world is superb at the moment and Holly Rees is the latest artist to continue that run of form. 'Missing Out (Again)' is a brilliantly chugging and bluesy indie romp that sits somewhere between early Pulp, early Maximo Park and William the Conqueror or Lush. Rees' voice walks the line between raw honesty and powerful melodies while the band romp forwards with the kind of energy that makes you want to head out and find some adventure about town. Also, a nod to the closest thing I've heard to a bass solo in quite a while which was not an unwelcome surprise.
